Human-Computer Interaction (SIT22008)
HCI quotes
“It’s not enough that we build products that function, that are understandable and usable, we also need to build products that bring joy and excitement, pleasure and fun, and yes, beauty to people’s lives.” - Don Norman
7. Transportation
As technology has developed, the mobility of people also has been highly increased. The HCI issues in transportation include convenience, comfort, entertainment, safety, and so forth. Good vehicle interfaces and driver-vehicle interactions have been researched as to their importance in human life. But, still, lots of hazard accidents are sometimes happening because its interface or interaction is bad. Also, there are lots of other transports such as a bicycle, and not everybody wants to use self-driving cars; therefore, the road system will be more complicated than now. Good vehicle interfaces/interactions are necessarily considered to keep people protected on the roads,
Do you think there’s no accident if there are no drivers operating their own car and only automated vehicles are running on the road? We cannot easily expect to see the fully automated world of transportation near future (within five years?), but the world keeps changing and we need to prepare something for our future transportation. From an HCI expert’s perspective, we should be available to think of interface/interaction systems of self-driving vehicles (also flights) as well as transportation-related service systems.

D. Future of Transportation
Technology keeps pushing its boundary toward the future, and there will be lots of new ways of transportations (e.g., Starship, HyperLoop, self-flying vehicles) that we don’t experience yet. Let’s imagine what kinds of HCI are necessary for future transportation.
